Coloration: ground color greyish, lighter on belly; scales lined with melanophores, more evident on lateral-line scales where they form vertical, crescent-shaped bars; dorsal and caudal fins greyish, simple dorsal-fin rays often blackish (Ref. 2940, 81282).
