Description: body elongate, moderately compressed, reaching its greatest depth at level of anal-fin origin; head broad; interorbital space almost flat; snout long and strongly rounded (length about equal to half of width); no adipose eyelid; upper lip thin and smooth, with 1-2 rows of rudimentary teeth scattered over its surface; hind end of upper jaw reaching a vertical line passing slightly in front of eye margin; maxillary pad visible below corner of mouth when closed; origin of 1st dorsal fin either nearer to caudal-fin base than to snout tip, or equidistant from these two points; pectoral axillary process absent; caudal fin broad (caudal peduncle deep); scales large (Ref. 57400).
Coloration: sides silvery-grey, sometimes with yellowish reflections; back slightly darker (olivaceous-brown); anal fin and lower lobe of caudal fin yellow (Ref. 57400).
