BéarlaDiagnosis: 10-11 anal soft rays; 12-15 scales in an oblique, transverse series; colour of fins greyish-white; second dorsal, pectoral fins and anal fin distinctly falcate Description: body elongate, compressed, reaching greatest depth at level of anal-fin origin; head broad; interorbital space almost flat; snout broad and rounded (length = half of width); no adipose eyelid; upper lip not ornamented, with 6-8 rows of teeth, those in outer row monocuspid, teeth in inner rows bicuspid; hind end of upper jaw reaching a vertical line passing between posterior nostril and anterior eye margin; maxillary pad visible below corner of mouth when closed; origin of 1st dorsal fin equidistant from snout tip and caudal-fin base; anterior rays of second dorsal and anal fins prolonged, forming a typical falcate lobe; caudal fin broad, crescent-shaped; pectoral axillary process absent (or rudimentary); 35-39 scales in a longitudinal series (Ref. 57400). Coloration: sides silvery, back darker (olivaceous-brown); fins uniformly light grey; a black spot at bases of pectoral fins (Ref. 57400).
